Think You’d Cope Without Home and Contents Insurance?
When you buy your dream home, you typically plan to live there for the rest of your life. You want to settle down, make your house a home and design and decorate it exactly as you want it. You receive the keys and you think everything will be fantastic from here on in. However, things can and do go wrong in the home and it is at these times that you need to think about home and contents insurance!
What is Home and Contents Insurance?
When you pay insurance on anything, you are basically protecting it against damage or in some cases even theft. With home and contents insurance it is exactly the same thing. You choose to protect the contents of your home as well as the house itself if anything were to happen.
So what exactly could happen? Well a few things that commonly happen include:
* Theft
* Fire
* Flood
* Storms
All of the above can severely damage your property as well as the contents within your home. If you were to lose everything would you be able to financially replace what you have lost? Generally for most people the answer is no. That is why home and contents insurance is so important.
It is important to note that home insurance and contents insurance do not always come together. You can get both insurance policies from the same insurer, but you should always check that you are getting exactly what you need.
Home Insurance – The Basics
Home insurance is different to contents insurance in the fact that it protects the structure of your home as well as the fixtures within it. These include sinks, baths, built in cupboards, suites and ceilings and floors, as well as the outside of the property.
Home insurance should always cover the value of your home. This is just in case, for whatever reason, your home gets completely destroyed in a fire or a storm and it needs to be rebuilt. This would obviously be the most beneficial type of insurance as financially most people would not be able to pay for their house to be rebuilt if something were to go wrong!
Contents Insurance – The Basics
Contents insurance is designed to protect the things inside your home. Appliances that you have purchased, furniture, electrical goods including televisions and microwaves and even ornaments. Anything that you have inside the home can be insured against theft or accidental damage.
Overall the main thing that you have to remember when purchasing home and contents insurance is how much cover you need and what you need to cover. There are different insurance policies that you can apply for and you need to ensure that you choose the right one to suit your needs. For this reason it would be a good idea to research before you buy any insurance cover.
